A traumatic event is defined essentially as something that instantly rewires neural pathways, affecting thoughts, reactions, behaviors and often the very core of who we are. It alters how a lot of us interact with ourselves and the outside world. We may develop certain values, ideas and behaviors that while are protective during and often immediately after the trauma, prevent us from moving forward in ways that are healthy for us. These changes were previously thought to be irreversible. However, therapy can help process the trauma and identify maladaptive coping and communication patterns that get in the way of moving towards goals and work to replace them with better, more useful ones.
We currently offer trauma-informed cognitive work, as well as Accelerated Resolution Therapy.
